Hi y’all!

I’ve been going back and forth on the idea of doing a costuming and sewing blog for a while now.  Social media can be anxiety inducing for me, but at the same time, it’s a wonderful way to connect and share.  Considering how much knowledge I’ve gleaned from costuming blogs over the years, I’d love to be able to share some of my own discoveries as well.

A little bit about me; I’m a former active duty military officer currently located in Houston, Texas. I’ve got two cats, a boyfriend I adore, and a pretty decent gig as a project manager that keeps me in the fabric.  I’m also rather shy, so you’ll never see me on stage at a costume contest.  For me, this isn’t about performing; it’s about making things.

Sewing’s been a huge part of my life since kindergarten.  My first love was quilting, but honestly, if it involved a needle and thread, I was all over it.  My high school job was working at the local quilt shop; my Featherweight came with me to college; I’d take the bullet train to Nagoya for fabric back when I was stationed in Tokyo.  Lately, I’ve been moving into historical costuming as well, with a healthy scoop of cosplay on the side.  Both of those, while somewhat related, have required me to tap into a whole host of alternate materials and techniques.  Everything is related.  That’s definitely something I’m learning.  It’s all related.

This blog will focus primarily on historical costuming and my journey through that massive world, but I may occasionally talk about some of those other things I’m interested in.

Anyway, this weekend is Space City Comic Con here in Houston, and I’ll get some photos up tomorrow or Monday of my steampunk outfit.  I’ve also got a few how-tos to share, plus some fun events coming here in Texas that I’ll be working on dresses for!
